Native VRM Model Import Support

Native VRM Model Import Support

Hello GDevelop team,

I would like to request native support for importing VRM (.vrm) models directly into GDevelop, without relying on the WithThreeJS extension.

VRM has become a widely used format for humanoid 3D characters, especially for anime-style games and avatars. Native support would make character workflows much easier for developers.

Some features that would be valuable include:

  • Import .vrm files directly into the Asset Manager.

  • Automatic support for VRM humanoid bones.

  • Built-in support for VRM facial expressions (blendshapes).

  • VRM spring bones for hair, clothing, and accessories.

  • Easy animation playback (Idle, Walk, Run, Jump, Attack, etc.).

  • Compatibility with existing 3D behaviors and events.

  • No JavaScript or external extensions required.

Currently, using VRM models requires the WithThreeJS extension and custom events, which can be difficult for beginners and limits portability between projects.

Native VRM support would make GDevelop a much better choice for developers creating 3D RPGs, anime games, horror games, and virtual avatar experiences.

Thank you for considering this feature!
