Opening global variable window should include scene variables tab

How about accessing variables from side panel via global variables option

Would open this variable window where we have tabs for both global and scene vars

My original idea was to add dedicated button to open this window
But Lucky-j made me think
Why to clutter UI if we can re use something that is already there?

And yes there exist hotkey to open this window
So press it on mobile device

And on top of that idea is to have hotkey but be able to access it via clicking
Cause with argument (we have hotkey already)
Maybe let’s remove save icon? Well you know you can ctrl+s so what’s the point?

My original idea below

My original message to add dedicated button

In short of it can we get button here on events sheet tab toolbar

To open this window

In which we have tab for scene ang global variables

I opened it just by adding action to change variable
Typed some var

And then i pressed this

If we can access it this way from events sheet then why not allow us to access both scene and global vars with just a button we would have on toolbar?

Right now we need to open project panel on left
Then click 3 dots next to our scene and then pick option to go to scene vars
Or go to scene editor tab and right click scene in scene editor and go to properties (or click button that open properties in upper right on that toolbar)
And now we see this

For global its just on left panel

It is very counter intuitive
If adding var via events sheet can handle both scene and global vars tab
We should be able to open exact same window from events sheet with just one and same button while we also should have that button in scene editor
Then select via tab which we want to deal with scene or global vars
Exactly like we have it here

Hello, ZeroX4

I think it makes perfect sense to have a button along with the others!

But it is possible to access this panel just using the shortcut for scene variables too. The panel that will appear has both scene and global variables.

You see that is workaround and not solution

Yes we have hotkey to open this window
But even so still we have 2 way to open global var window
And 4 ways to open scene vars window

Where we should have ONE BUTTON to open window that shows both scene and global vars

And on top of that hotkey solves nothing and helps no one when someone is on mobile

I’m not saying that is a solution, Zero. That’s why I said it makes perfect sense to have the button and liked your topic. I just added some access information that you didn’t know. Maybe can help someone. :slightly_smiling_face:

I do get your intention
And i am more than aware you are just trying to help and i am not trying to diminish that

But like i siad
Problem would not be solved
And imagine this scenario

Someone is using gdevelop only on desktop
Now such person sees that he can open that window with hotkey

So for that person problem is soled
He got custom to opening it with that key

But maybe in the future he will use gdevelop on mobile device
And what now?
How to press that key without keyboard?

We just postponed issue for such person that will come back later
And we are not solving anything right now for ppl that already use gdevelop on mobile device

Well I voted for your idea, although I am perfectly content to hit v and tab twice, then arrow and enter to get to my scene/global variables. And I do detest cluttering up things with excessive menus and buttons.

However, I voted for your idea because GDevelop is an important tool. It should be readily accessible to creators even if they happen to only have a mobile device and no available wireless keyboard. It would be cumbersome enough to only use a mobile device for creating games, without making someone’s task even more difficult by not providing button access to frequently needed actions, as your topic suggests.

Actually you helped me understand my request is flawed
We don’t need NEW special dedicated button to open that window
We only to unify way we access it right now by adding functionality

So all we would need is by clicking here on global variables

To open this window which also have tab for scene vars

And we are not not adding new dedicated button we are only reusing what is already there

Really thanks i gonna edit my OP
