Shape Painter: Disable "Draw the shape relative to the object position on scene" by default

Note: The fature request Shape painter - Draw the shape relative to the object position on scene (and make it UN CHECKED by default) continues here.
-Luni

I made feature request to change rename “Draw the shape relative to the object position on scene” option

I believe i made mistake but i gonna let others to judge
I want it to get changed but the more i think about i think it could stay as it is

Since 1 feature request per topic that is why i went with another one

Anyway i don’t know everything but i totally can speak from what i seen being here over 3 years

But first let me ask you a question
Did any of you in any user events and yourself included
EVER seen someone draw shapes from NewShapePainter.X NewShapePainter.Y?

I just realized i never seen any1 doing it
All events i seen so far is it on forums or on discord or even in youtube videos
NEVER had any1 even try to draw anything from position of shape painter

That is why i request for this option

To be disabled by default when you add shape painter object to your object list
Instead of renaming it

I think that could fix a lot more problems
Than expecting after renaming that option for users to read it and even understand it

I would expect 95% (more or less) will click it when they create SP by accident or to check what it does
So that alone would solve most problems ppl have with why their shapes are not being drawn from where they try to draw them

@petlimpet can have an opinion about that.
I know he is english speaking but i think he as some experience with shapes painter.

I had a look at one of my projects where I used about five shape painters for toggles and sliders. I have the ‘draw relative to position’ checked for all of them and therefore I didn’t need to specify the position in events because I’ve placed them correctly in the scene. Then I had a look at another project where I’d used a shape painter to draw a lot of stars to have stars shining at night and that had the option unchecked and I specified the position in events. So, I’m confused, wouldn’t having the option unchecked mean you have to specify position? Or am I missing the point?

i do lots of drawing from the shapepainter x and y in this…

so personally id like to see it remain a thing

Start reading topics to which you reply to
Cause your replies makes less sense with each new one

NOTHING in this topic is about speaking any language or understanding it
Its only about something to being ON or OFF by default
Cause of use case

Not cause of not understanding language

Are you 100% sure you don’t have action to draw from relative position NO?

Cause i simply gave up on placing SP on scene and editing its properties

I simply create it via events on layer i want and then add action Draw from relative pos NO

Anyway
You @Bubble and you @petlimpet
I am more curious what you see most the times

Cause its not about ppl who know what to do
But about ppls who don’t
Who will see tutorial/forum post or screenshot on discord

I am biased here so my opinion is not object
But really i do not remember EVER seeing any1 draw from shape painter X or Y

I am willing to sit with any1 and go trough forum and discord message and compare screenshots

And again this is about having that option OFF by default and not removing it
While now its default state is ON

As new user if i would see every other screenshot / video with shape painter draw from SOME position and not SP position
And then don’t see my drawings cause there is some option no one mentioned they got disabled by default
I would be pretty confused

And i am here with this topic only cause i helped A LOT of users deduce that reason they don’t see their shapes is cause of that option being ON

It’s very funny to read you!

Would you be sensitive?

@ZeroX4 - I get where you’re coming from and i have seen threads where it has caused some confusion but I like to draw from the relative position and treat it as an object with an x and y. I’ve seen other people on here do it too - its not just me.

Again i am biased here
But i really never seen any1 draw from SP itself

And i am only proposing what should be default state of that option

And i am not asking to remove anything here

That is why i am asking for objective opinion on what would be better for other users

I needed to explain to many users why their shapes do not draw at all or in wrong place
And this post is result of another of such user on discord

This is not a change that will change anything for me cause i use action to disable it when i create SP via actions in events sheet

Most likely it won’t change much for other users who know how to use it

It is only meant to help users who don’t know what it do and are most likely new/fresh SP users

I think i am not the one who’s messages are funny to read

The thing about the shape painter, it has a very wide range of uses - draw fancy shapes, or add a behavior to it which is what I most often do. I add the slider control or toggle button behaviour to it, for example. In this instance, I know exactly where I want it to be, so I put it there and keep the relative position check box checked.

People are used to putting something in the scene and that’s where it is. I think if the default option was off then it would cause more confusion becaue it goes against the principles that apply to other objects.

To make sure we’re talking about the same thing, here’s a screenshot of one of my shape painter toggle button properties. I’ll admit though that positioning shape painters on the screen is tricky because you can’t see what it looks like.

Yes, good point. For me, I think there could be more description in the properties, rather than changing the default option.
