Tilemaps in Gdevelop

Please is there an avenue to import a single file with multiple tiles in GDevelop as is the case in Gamemaker studio?

Not yet, but someone is working on it.

There is an enhancement currently being worked on by Blurymind here: Support for Tilemaps objects (tilesets and Tiled files) · Issue #503 · 4ian/GDevelop · GitHub

While that is still being worked on, you can build your tilemaps outside of GD5 and import them as a single map:

  1. Load your tileset in Tiled Map Editor
  2. Make your map using Tiled.
  3. Export your map as a single image. If the map is exceptionally large (over 4000x4000), split it into multiple images.
  4. In GDevelop, create a new sprite object.
  5. Select your exported map image as the sprite’s image file. You can now place your map in your game as needed.
  6. If you have platforms/collisions in your map, just create another sprite object that is a single colored square. Give it the platform behavior, then place it everywhere you need a wall/floor/etc. Then hide that object at the start of the scene with events.

Note: The current enhancement is still going to require you to build your maps in Tiled anyway, then you can import the generated tilemap. So getting familiar with Tiled now will be helpful for later.

Thank you very much. I look forward to its success.
