Was really happy with this four.
Wordle 382 4/6
Erm, Google translate, perchance?
Today’s Wordle fits in with my pet Wordle peeve :
Wordle 382 5/6*
Thank you for the explanation
You should be. I am not happy with my 4, I should have had it in 3. But that eureka moment came too late.
Wordle 382 4/6*
I misread that one at first
I’m happy with my 4 today - it’s not a very common word, especially in these modern times :
Wordle 383 4/6*
I’m sure the way I put the sentences together connecting them with English was awkward but I was hoping it would all make sense, haha. It was really much easier to find negative idioms, so I didn’t have a lot of choice for positive ones.
Here’s the literal translation and then the idiomatic meaning.
Absolutely we are all very lucky to have MrMen who has something under the knee. He always gets the piglet washed. And he is very patient while we chat about little cows and little calves.
Absolutely, we all very lucky to have MrMen who has such in depth knowledge. He always gets the job done and fixes everything. And he is very patient while we talk a whole lot of nonsense.

You forgot the recent chat about chickens.
I haven’t heard of most of those idioms, andI had to laugh at #2 - as if an angel is peeing on your tongue; it seems disgusting, but means the exact opposite of what you initially think.
An idiom my parent used was (translated) “You’re seeing bears” i.e. you’re imagining things.
And an English idiom MrWomen and I use when told where something is in a rather general and unhelpful manner - “It’s by the brown sugar”
I didn’t understand what you misread the chicken sexer thing as. And yes, haha, you too MrMen are equally good at talking nonsense (plant girl and dirt boy (although it was actually good)) but yeah was just trying to make a little Dutch story. I’ve never heard of the brown sugar saying and found nothing when I looked it up.
There’s a hack on worlde you can find the answer inside localstorage, so my score is pretty much the same, also ruining it for everyone
Wordle 383 1/6*
Haha, I already know about the local storage thing as does MrMen. I’ve used it to update my stats when changing browser or some other problem but I want to earn my greens, haha so not interested in the hack side of it.
Ha, not surprised. I asked MrsWomen about it, and she said she heard it from my relatives. It has Dutch origins, and she liked it so much she adopted the idiom.
Another one is when the phrase “Every time a coconut”, meaning it’s the same thing as before because coconuts all look the same.
A bit of a non segue-way, I found these old kiwi ads that brought back childhood memories. It might bring about the odd cuckle.
I looked at the first Kiwi ad, the togs/undies one. Hahahah, so good. Will check out more later. I know the wonderful Taika Waititi did some ads early on, I wonder if any are his.
Yeah me too, it was looking like here we go but fortunately the choices died out after guess 3.
Wordle 383 4/6
Had two good choices for guess three and usually would go with the one I think of first (which usually fails me) and just felt like this was the time to not do that, yayyyyy.
Wordle 384 3/6
Nice, it’s always a nice feeling when it al comes together so quickly.
I thought I had it in 2 today, as the greens ticked over. And then hoped for 3. Alas, it was not to be :
Wordle 385 4/6*
Oh noooo, but yeah, there were a few more options for that last letter, so not too bad. However, MrMen, I have a feeling that one of your starter words is
the first four letters of the answer?
I was in major anagram territory which doesn’t happen very often for me.
Wordle 385 3/6
I have also never heard of it and have asked around, but no one seemed to know. Are you sure your house isn’t covered in brown sugar?
I thought I had it in 2 today, as the greens ticked over. And then hoped for 3. Alas, it was not to be
I had the same at my 3rd guess, but then screamed a little on the inside.
Wordle 384 5/6* (this one had too many options)
Wordle 385 4/6*
Worked hard for this one. Took a chance for guess 2 which paid off.
Wordle 387 3/6
Although I finally got it within 3 guesses, you are starting to make me jealous @Bubble, with all those 3s. I keep wondering though, why don’t you play on hard mode? Is that what helps you get those scores? You might need to give me some Wordle advice because I sometimes get stuck on really simple words. My mindset will be locked into a certain pattern, and I can’t seem to deviate from that. Eventually I will skip it, but when I look it up, it turns out to be a really simple word.
Wordle 389 3/6*
Good work with your three, ES.
I think I’ve made use of playing easy mode twice and I went on record here saying that I did it when it was to avoid a fail from too many choices. And one other time I accidentally didn’t use one of my yellows which I was very annoyed about.
So apart from those times I’m very strict about playing in hard mode. Why don’t I just formally play in hard mode? I don’t know. I’m definitely afraid of losing but don’t think that’s what stopping me. Today I went to change it to hard mode but had already done my starter word so couldn’t.
Apart from the choice of starter word and then using good letters for guess 2, my advice is to think about which letters go together.
Like if guess 1 gave you one vowel, say an A and there’s no E then think about the vowels the A can go with: OA, AI, AU, UA, IA. And think about consonant combinations, say if there’s no R but you know there’s a D. There can be LD, ND, DD, WD, DG. So have a little bag of tricks of pairing consonants that you consider, like MP, GH, GHT, SW, CK, LK, SM, TH, PH, NK, SK, CT etc.
So you assess, hmmm, do I think there’s going to be two vowels next to one another, one vowel only or two separate vowels? Like CVCVC, CCVCC, CCVVC, CVVCC, CCVCV. They aren’t the only combinations but good ones to use as your base.
And be aware of tricky things like words ending in Y. And I think for a five letter word, the CVCVC combination is always a bit of a shock when there’s no E so really be aware of that one. And also be aware of unusual situations where the word ends in a vowel that’s not E. And also of words starting with a vowel.
And it might seem like thinking about all that will take a long time, but it doesn’t. It focusses you on the important things. There’s been a few times when I’ve been really stubborn and in my quest for a low score have spent a long time on it, maybe 30 minutes. Guessing here, but normally I’m done in three or four minutes with the tougher ones being maybe 10 minute jobbies.
Yesterday was a 4.
Wordle 389 3/6
I’ve played a lot of word puzzles, but Wordle is quite unique compared to the others. It’s still entertaining to play, but I usually utilize web resources for references and hints to learn more words that can be used.
Thank you for this lengthy explanation. I always try to use as many vowels as possible with the starter word. And I have had some success with a certain starter word I have talked about before. I’m sure you will remember talking about it. Although it sometimes keeps me from making further progress. I will definitely study your explanation and hopefully improve my wordle skills a bit
I must say, I haven’t been speaking/typing/reading a lot of English lately, so this might have downgraded my skills even further.
Thanks again for the explanation I will bookmark it for future reference.
No improvement yet
