Give us choice from start to either publish or generate new link for our project

When you wanna generate link to your game
(i did it for few old projects)
IDK why but now i have NO CHOICE to even generate that link with jk234j-3jk22g23h-234jk243k-kh234k

Instead it is link with project name

So here i see this

No option do i want to publish my project or do i wanna just generate dev link i wanna either test myself or share with someone

This is somewhat related to this feature request but it is requesting something else

Publish on GD games and preview link button

So with new update we have this radio button [image] And it is it default state to publish a game We need to click it to create preview link [image] I would say more sense it would have to by default leave it at OFF state to generate preview link OR make it remember last choice Cause right now it defaults always to publishing And as i assume more times we need to generate preview link for tests than publish our game Or am i missing something?

In above request i ask when you see that button to select do you want to publish or just get new dev link
To default to new link or at least remember last choice

Where in this case there is no button to even choose anything
You 1st need to publish game then you go back to previous window and now you can generate new link to dev build

I already seen user asking on discord how to NOT publish his game and just generate dev link

But i see bigger issue
Some of us will not pay attention to it until it happen

When you generate link with project name
It is same link to whatever last update of your project you published

So when i come here and for example someone asks how to make player shoot left and right
I explained how to do it and generated link to my test project so someone could test it out before even trying to implement it

Let’s say i generated one with project name
For example this

Test Game | Play on gd.games

Now in another topic someone asks how to make player open/close doors when player is close to doors and E key is pressed

So again i paste screenshot of events
But also generate preview link so such user can test it before trying it
Yet i did again generate link with project name (i published my project)

Test Game | Play on gd.games

But now for where i pasted link to my game in previous topic
Is now updated to what i just published

So in last topic about how to fire bullet
Link no longer will open version i made showing how to fire bullet
But it is now link to how to open doors
Since last time i generated link it was to that version with open/close doors

So in that previous topic my link leads to something that is not related to the topic anymore

I know not ALL of us come here to answer questions and share links to prove it is working
So its is more of a ME problem than general problem

But no matter how i look at it i say 1st need to publish game then be able to generate dev link is bad move

Even most of us want to 1st test their game before publishing it in any way

Also for most it would not matter is it link to unique version or we are updating same link with newer version of our project

I think I got how you want things to work.
When you want to publish a test version for the fire bullet example, you should see the toggle “Update game page” that, if you check it off, it should generate a link that looks like gd.games/instant-builds/af53210-feff32-.... Is it not the case for you?

I saw that you requested that GDevelop remembers the last choice made by the user, it could be a nice improvement indeed.

Yo there and actually 2 things (where yes that 2nd thing is to remember choice i just gonna describe everything in detail)

I exported this project in the past to gd games
In fact i exported it to gd games AFTER that new publishing way was implemented

(Don’t mind “Sylwusie kontra jarusie” name since i initially was making it as pack of games but then separated this one “battle city” from it as standalone project)

And yes i did export it to gd games AFTER i separated it to it own project
And AFTER new publishing/export method was implemented

Now when i try to export/publish it to gd games i see this

I have no choice here to generate that fancy looking test link like
gd.games/instant-builds/af53210-feff32-

So i click Publish game button and i get this

Next i close these window
And now i see this in previous window

Which i should see from the start
And i gonna see this window every time from now on when i try to publish my game

And just by toggling Update game page button

I gonna get this fancy looking link i would wish to get from the start gd.games/instant-builds/af53210-feff32-

This should be shown each time we try to publish game to gd games
Where idea is we sometimes need 1 link showing something if we did things SOME way in events
And separate link if we do some changes in events to show effects of how we did these SOME things different way

But if we are updating our game on gd page we are getting link with our game name
And so as name says we are updating same version and not generating new/different version of it

And that is that 2nd thing
I would say by default this toggle button should be off to generate link instead of publish version
Or at least remember our last choice if we gonna be forced to 1st publish our game to gd games at least once

I agree, I think this used to be an option, but then they did some new UX changes and now you’re forced to publish it then generate a test link.

I’m not sure if this is intentional or accidental
