I would like to boost petlimpet’s suggestion. The difference between the two arrows doesn’t really catch the eye. It happens a lot that I am looking for something or trying to understand what I did and the confusion is because of a collapsed event. Yes I am aware that we can select an option to expand all events, but it wouldn’t hurt to have more visual help.
Here’s 3 options. I just find it really difficult to spot the difference between to two arrows while scrolling up and down. So …1 …make the block a different grey, 2 make the bar next to the arrow a colour or 3 larger icons and a spot instead of an arrow
Question to better understand:
From the use you’re describing it seems like y’all prefer to search for that specific thing by opening the “closed drawers” one by one, by hand. Is my impression correct?
And if it’s correct: why choosing to open them one by one instead of “open all” or use a search in event sentences to find it quicker?
How do you ‘open all’?
the new search features are great …sometimes though it’s difficult to know what to search for as it’ll just be one small commonly used action on a commonly used object that’s conflicting with what you’re trying to achieve but i keep looking for it and can’t find it because i haven’t realised the event block is closed, as visually the difference between open and closed is too small.
And to go back to your experience with the search:
I understood that -sometimes- the thing you’re looking for could be repeated across the whole event sheet (in your example you said a commonly used object); but it is its relationship with one specific line (and another element) that causes the issues. This is the thing you try to find; which could be hiding behind closed events.
If this is the case, I didn’t quite understood why not use the Search > search in event sentences > use the arrows at the bottom right (the ones in “showing X out of Y”) to see all the relationship to that object, vs having to do this by scolling?
Hi Luni. I use the search function when I’m trying to find something very specific, for example to check where I’ve changed a Boolean variable. But I also like to visually look through the events in general. So, let’s say I use the search when I need to find something and I scroll when I need to see something.
I use groups for events and often one group will directly affect another group and I’m constantly scrolling back and forth between them. Each event group can be quite long. I collapse any groups that are not my current focus and only have the relevant ones open. I collapse events because sometimes they just take up too much space visually when I want to get an overview of everything and they’re not relevant at that moment.
When I can’t see something, it ends up being because the event was collapsed and I haven’t realised because the little arrows are so small and unnoticeable for which way they’re pointing. If I suspect that a collapsed event is why I can’t see something then it ends up being easier to do the expand all setting than to actually scroll through looking for the little sideways arrow. That means I’m potentially undoing event collapsing in an area of the event sheet I’m not working on just so I can see the things in the area I am working on.
Just as a note, I also use groups within groups (sub groups) but I usually only get that organised after those things are working correctly and it’s time to move onto the next event group/problem/troubleshooting etc.
There’s a little highlight around the arrow on touch. So a similar little square could be used for a sideways arrow.
I think @Bubble has explained the reasons much more clearly than I could. The new search functions are great, but we’re still going to be constantly scanning up and down searching visually for things and manually collapsing and expanding events blocks, and event blocks inside event blocks.
