You know when you are making a game and have a lot of levels (like 10 level scenes) and have around 3 ui screens. With folders you can put the scenes in a folder so you can find the scenes easier. Put the levels in a “level” folder and ui scenes in a “ui” folder. (It’s like the same as the object folders, just for scenes)
Scene folders is not yet in the app, the overhaul of the project manager will be carried out step by step, the first step of the rvamp having been completed last month.
Actually the teams are finishing another big chunk that didn’t have link with the project manager.
You are correct, there was definitely a button. I’m asking around to see if the change is intentional or not, but you can still add new object folders by right-clicking on the ‘scene objects’ or ‘global objects’ label and then choosing the new folder option.
If you still can’t create them at that point, I’d recommend making a new thread, as this thread is a feature request for putting scenes in folders, rather than anything relating to object folders.
I wanted to add to this discussion since my post was archived as similar, however I asked to add organisation folders for - Extensions mainly, External Layouts as well as scenes. Extensions being able to be put in a folder is very helpful for organising their functionality in bigger projects.
1+ for this thread since mine was archived after its opening.
PS - I asked for more than scene folders so it was different and I explained that, I still don’t understand why it was archived. Hopefully it can be added to this request.
Feature requests regarding folders have been brought up many times for quite a while now. In fact, it’s even visible on the roadmap at the moment (link). A similar feature was implemented for scene objects, but as far as I can tell, there hasn’t been any progress on the other items mentioned (scenes, external events, etc.). I recall reading in another old post that this was being worked on and would be included in future versions (it still hasn’t arrived yet :D).
Once you start using the engine seriously, this feature truly becomes a necessity.
I’m not sure if implementing this is technically challenging, but if it were added, it would allow us to organize and manage everything much more easily.
I might be wrong about there being no progress on this feature; I’m not entirely sure. There are one or more volunteers looking to work on this feature in a GitHub issue (link). If they happen to see this comment, I would be very grateful if they could provide an update on whether there’s any development regarding the folder feature.
Same here. I would love to get folders for Scenes, External Layouts, External Events, and folders for Extensions to organise them by use, especially once you start separating logic and need the organisation. Would like to se it a priority, would donate to help someone get this finally done.
Hopefully, a engine developer weighs in on this. The old “Folder Everything” is very handy, haha. Just on the editor side, it’s so needed.
Bumping this thread as I can’t find a solid answer to this still. Can we get a GDevelop team member to respond if possible to the above, or just if this particular type of foldering is being worked on? I know most of the time we get told “We are working on organisational features” but I mean for folders in the editor tab for Scenes, Extension/Behaviours, External Layouts, Events etc side panel.
Also, if possible, is there anyone open to working on it as a pull request? My coding skills are nowhere near helpful, but I would love to help contribute towards it being completed ):
