What is the part of Gdevelop that you think can be improved?

Gdevelop is a great game engine and easy to use.
Just wondering, what is the part of Gdevelop that you find the most difficult or annoying to use, and how do you think it could be better?
For example, for making 3D games I wish there was a 3D camera in the editor that you could pan around and view your levels.

Hi!

Also improve the horizontal and vertical cross-bars of the GD’s screen editor.
It is be very annoying and embarrassing to use them, particularly when you make an selection error with sprites objects of the screen while you wanted move the place where you was on the screen.

Also I think Gdevelop should make collaboration with other people for one game free, and more than one paid. So you can collaborate with other people on a free account, but only for one game.

Organisation. Making anything dynamic or modular creates a huge mess fast.
The lack of groups with hierarchies for scenes, external layouts, external events and layers is holding this fabulous game engine back, and with it its users.

There are Event groups though…

There’s still many elements of it that I’m yet to use, and so any points that I make here need to be discarded immediately!.. but…Piskel could do with a makeover - with free transform. I still find it odd that there’s no ā€˜else’ - I know that you can invert everything, including trigger once (has anyone actually done this?) , but if you’ve got lots of ands and or’s in an event it frys my brain a bit to negate it. Perhaps the ability to invert a whole event - your going to tell me this is a thing now and id not noticed. Better vector support and more effect shaders - also is the debugger going to become a paid item? There was a link to it, and now that seems to have gone and you have to press f6 - please at least keep the profiler free. There’s too many trackers on the gd.games page
I’m enjoying using it though - and as i say - ive only really scratched the surface - so ignore the above.

Hey folks, this thread is fine for you to share ideas with each other, but if you are looking for potential changes to the engine: as a reminder feature requests and enhancements have to be submitted following this process:

Omnibus threads will not likely ever be seen or reviewed.

I take your point but G develop might benefit from a more informal discussion that leads to a conclusion. Perhaps a lively discussion here could lead to a distilling of the best suggestions by one of the more experienced forum users - and then those ideas get popped into the feedback channel.

I agree totally with Davedorkmouse . The discussion had no for object to take the place of the section ā€œBugs Reportā€ but to examine if an proposition is said by several persons. In this case, that can be used by the GD’s team if numerous times a proposition is mentioned.

No worries on you all continuing the thread, as I said you’re absolutely welcome to keep discussing this as needed.

I’m just stressing this is likely not going to be seen or reviewed by the GDevelop team here.

If you do come to a conclusion on things you’d like to see changed, please ensure you follow the process as linked above otherwise it’ll be lost to the ether.

(also note the GDevelop team cannot impact the look/functionality of Piskel, it’s an external project they just bundle in the engine).

Yes of course and we will decide after concertation what to put on the official post.

It will be very useful if it was possible for the JS experts of the forum to update Piskel source code with functions said here.

I agree that piskel should be improved and there should be an ā€˜else’ condition.

Solarized light UI Theme. Too trivial to bother the devs with, to complex to take time out of my projects to figure out how to do it myself.

Hi all!

So who can be contacted for maintain Piskel, if that is accepted by the author(s) of course?

I think the most concerning thing in Gdevelop that needs to be changed soon is that the web version is taking me four times to upload before the gd.games page is updated.

There hasn’t been an official (compiled) release for Piskel since 2018, but you can always try to reach out to any maintainers or contributors at their Github: GitHub - piskelapp/piskel: A simple web-based tool for Spriting and Pixel art.

Hi Silver!

Ok. For information, the society PISKEL Studio has been formed on march the first 2025 and is based to Paris, rue de Lyon.
The president of SAS society is the creator of Piskel, Jullian DESCOTTES and the Director is Vincent RENAUDIN.

Thanks for infos.

This is probably what I was going to say as well. Great suggestion!

And in view of these informations, it is certainly to GD staff to contact the President or the Director of this society, if GD staff wishes to improve Piskel inside GDevelop.

The main problem with Piskel with me is that some times the upload of my piskel drawing hangs while transferring to the gdevelop page. Then I have to reload the page and my drawing is lost.
